Hang Tag Sizes: Standard, Mini, and Custom Compared

03/05/2026

Size is one of the first questions we ask on every quote, and it’s more consequential than it looks. A tag sized for a folded sweater looks absurd on a stud earring, and a tiny mini tag disappears on a large tote bag or blanket.

Here’s how our three most common size classes map to real products.

Standard size (2 in × 3.5 in)

This is our default for apparel, bags, and most retail goods. It’s large enough to carry a logo, a size or SKU line, and a short brand statement on the reverse, without overwhelming a folded garment or accessory.

Mini size (0.75 in × 1.5 in)

Built for jewelry and other small-format accessories — earrings, bracelets, small leather goods. At roughly a third the footprint of a standard tag, it sits naturally beside the product instead of hiding it.

Product type Recommended size Typical finish
Sweaters, jackets, bags Standard (2 in × 3.5 in) Kraft or string & grommet
Earrings, necklaces Mini (0.75 in × 1.5 in) Mini Jewelry
Candles, home goods Standard or custom shape Embossed or die-cut
Wedding favors Custom, often mini Foil-stamped or kraft
Bottles, hampers Standard, pre-strung String & grommet

Custom sizes and shapes

Beyond standard and mini, we cut fully custom dimensions and silhouettes for brands whose product or packaging calls for something specific — a long, narrow tag for a wine bottle neck, or a die-cut shape that mirrors a logo outline.

Choosing for your order

When in doubt, request two mockups at two sizes — it costs nothing extra during the design phase, and seeing the tag next to an actual product photo makes the decision obvious in a way a spec sheet doesn’t.

Key takeawayStandard fits most apparel and bags; Mini fits jewelry; custom shapes fit everything else. Ask for a sized mockup before you commit.
