The Die-Cut Shape Hang Tag throws out the standard rectangle and cuts your tag into whatever silhouette actually represents your brand — a logo outline, a product icon, a mascot, or a shape pulled straight from your packaging system. Where a rectangular tag is a blank canvas you decorate, a die-cut tag is a shape decision first: the outline itself becomes part of the branding, visible even before a customer reads a word of copy on it.
We cut every shape with a custom steel-rule die built to your exact outline, which means the first order includes a one-time die charge and typically three to five extra business days versus our standard rectangular styles. Once that die exists, though, it’s yours — every reorder reuses it, so a shape that felt like a bigger investment on order one becomes just another line item on order two. We commonly cut rounded badge shapes, hexagons and other geometric marks, animal or mascot silhouettes for gift and novelty brands, and shapes that echo a product’s actual form (a bottle outline for a beverage brand, a leaf for a home-goods or wellness line).
This style is a natural fit anywhere a brand’s shape identity is doing real work. A boutique retailer with a distinctive logo mark uses a die-cut tag as an instantly recognizable shelf signal, distinguishable from every competitor’s rectangular tag at a glance. A candle or home-goods brand might die-cut a tag shaped like their signature icon so it reads as a design object even sitting loose in a gift basket. Wedding and gifting programs sometimes commission one-off shapes for a specific event — a monogram silhouette or a shape pulled from the couple’s invitation suite — to unify tags with the rest of the event’s paper goods.
Because the outline is custom, print area and color count flex more than on our standard tags: we typically run one to four spot colors on this style, and can accommodate more detailed art than a simple rectangular tag because the shape itself is already doing visual work, so the printed graphic can stay simpler. Stock choice is open between coated and uncoated cardstock at 16pt, whichever finish matches your other packaging. As with our other styles, we send a photo-real proof of both the shape and the print before anything goes to production, so you can confirm the die cuts exactly where you expect.
If you’re not sure a custom die makes sense for your volume yet, we’re happy to advise — as a rule of thumb, a custom shape pays for itself fastest above 2,000–3,000 units, and below that a rectangular tag with strong art usually gets you 90% of the visual impact for less setup cost. Send your shape reference (even a rough sketch) and a target quantity, and we’ll scope the die and send mockups within one business day.
